Nicolas Garcia grew up in the South of France with a guitar in his hands and an orchestra in his head. That tension between the intimate and the monumental runs through everything he writes.

His compositional process is primarily analog, ideas forming in silence, then moving to paper and piano, developed by hand. Working this way allows him to craft something more intentional, more considered, before a single note is committed elsewhere. When the narrative calls for a wider palette, he layers in analog synthesis, resynthesis, or sounds recorded from scratch, expanding the sonic world only where the story demands it.

He holds degrees in harmony, counterpoint, fugue and orchestration, as well as a musicology degree from Paris-Sorbonne. His work spans concert music, film, television, opera and video games.

In 2026, his score for Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss (Big Bad Wolf / NACON), recorded with Tina Guo and the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, won the Crystal Pine Award for Best Original Score at the ISFMF in Croatia. His opera is expected in 2027.
